Here’s what you’re missing… I’m an organic garden Here’s what you’re missing… I’m an organic gardener and I teach fellow Southern gardeners how to grow food organically without pesticides. Part of that is teaching you how to protect your main crop with other plants. I call those plants **bodyguards**. But just like real-life bodyguards, they are not the end-all-be-all. And too many people think they are. These are the comments I’m seeing on my content: “I planted the plants you said, but the bugs are still showing up.” 👂 Listen — organic gardening does not mean bugs never show up. It means you aren’t using bad chemicals to get rid of pests or bad chemicals to fertilize your plants. My focus is teaching you how to build a strong garden foundation with plants that trap pests, attract beneficial insects, help manage pests, or deter them away from your crops. But that’s only part of it. The other part is you actually spending time in your garden and observing what’s going on. That’s the **15 Minute Bed Check Routine**. At least 3x/week. Walk and observe. That’s the part people are skipping. Newsflash ⚡️ You have to be a gardener in an actual garden. You cannot expect the plants to do it all for you. And here’s the other part not many people talk about: **Stressed plants attract pests.** Heat, lack of water, too much water, too much rain, soil inadequacies — so many things can contribute to stressed plants. It’s your job to pay attention. Even with your bodyguards on duty. Don’t skip spending time in your garden. You can’t just go out there and weed and harvest. Get in there and observe so you can adjust what you need to.
