I actually grow food like my grandparents did - organically which was just how they did things back then when the word “organic” wasn’t sensationalized. It was seed packet spacing rules, planting out after Easter & advice from the farmers almanac. 😉 I’ve modernized it a bit by choosing to companion plant around my main crops which helps keep my garden protected from garden pests. But just like them, I plant based on my frost dates & don’t use any harmful sprays for pest protection. Gardening gets a lot easier when you understand things like this instead of just guessing your way through the season. Onions also help lower cutworm populations. 🌱Oregano brings in the good bugs to take care of the bad ones. 🌱Radishes can be a trap crop. Attracting pests away from lettuce. 🌱Thyme deters cabbage worms, loopers & weevils. 🌱Dill attracts ladybugs & lacewings which love to feast on aphids. 🌱Marigolds keep away cabbage worms and nematodes. My goal for my lettuce is to alternate an herb and a flower.
