Direct sowing sounds easyโ€ฆ until your โ€œperfectly p Direct sowing sounds easyโ€ฆ until your โ€œperfectly plantedโ€ row turns into a patchy little crime sceneโ˜ ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘€.

Some seeds never sprout.
Some wash away.
Some dry out before they ever get going.
Some get buried too deep and give up underground.
And some come up so crowded they start fighting for their lives before they even have true leaves.๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Hereโ€™s where you might be messing it up when planting seeds straight in the garden:

1๏ธโƒฃ **Planting too early**
Soil temperature matters. If the ground is too cold, your seeds may sit there, rot, or germinate poorly. The calendar is helpful, but the soil tells the truth.

2๏ธโƒฃ **Planting too deep**
Most seeds do not need to be buried like treasure. Too deep and they may never have the strength to push through. Read the packet and respect the planting depth. If you donโ€™t have the packet handy, donโ€™t plant the seed any further than 2x its actual size. Tiny seeds probably sit on top with a sprinkle of dirt or a tamper in. Small seeds probably 1/4โ€-1/2โ€ and large seeds about an inch.

3๏ธโƒฃ **Not watering consistently**
Seeds need steady moisture to germinate. Let that top layer dry out too much and you can lose the whole row before it ever gets started.

4๏ธโƒฃ **Ignoring spacing**
I know thinning feels wrong, but overcrowding is not abundance. It leads to weak plants, poor airflow, more competition, and more pest and disease pressure later.

5๏ธโƒฃ **Forgetting protection**
Freshly sown rows can get wrecked by heavy rain, crusted soil, ants, pill bugs, squirrels, rabbits, chickens, or anything else treating your garden like a buffet/playground.

Direct sowing isnโ€™t just โ€œdrop seeds and hope.โ€

Itโ€™s timing.
Depth.
Moisture.
Spacing.
Protection.

Get those right, and your seeds actually stand a chance. ๐ŸŒฑ

And I have so much rain in the forecast this week and next week without many breaks (turns out this week I may have a few spots to squeeze in but I donโ€™t want to get any further behind)!

Iโ€™m turning the poll on for this one because part 2 is coming tomorrow at noon! Iโ€™d have kept the video going but then IG would put me in ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿ˜ถโ€๐ŸŒซ๏ธ๐Ÿซฅ
๐Ÿคช๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿคช

Do you think I succeeded?? Put one of these emojis in the comments:
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป = You absolutely did! I have faith.
๐Ÿซฃ = There is no way! Thatโ€™s a lot of work.
๐Ÿฟ = I just like to vote!
