Hereโ€™s why I think itโ€™s not workingโ€ฆ First of all Hereโ€™s why I think itโ€™s not workingโ€ฆ

First of all, my entire garden is setup to defend itself. Iโ€™m an organic grower.

My go to pest control โ€œtreatmentโ€ options are used sparingly. (BT, Neem, DE & Insecticidal Soap) I prefer hunting and unaliving. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I intentionally plant companion plants to protect my main crops. And I plant a BOAT LOAD OF THEM.

But hereโ€™s the part none of us can control: weather, the right amount of watering at all times (due to weather), stressed plants.

And once our plants are stressed, they send out signals that pests are tuned into.

Itโ€™s not that your companion plants arenโ€™t doing their job. Itโ€™s that your crops signaled stress and invited the pests in.

And if you donโ€™t have enough beneficial insects taking up residence, the pests will multiply rapidly. Itโ€™s what they do best.

Donโ€™t give up on companions. They are working. Your plants stress just might be louder.

Itโ€™s time out your ninja clothes on and start manually defending your garden. ๐Ÿฅท

My peppers are failingโ€ฆ Are yours?? Iโ€™ve heard f My peppers are failingโ€ฆ

Are yours??

Iโ€™ve heard from several of you who are also in or around my growing zone, that you are also experiencing pepper failure.

I feel like we are all having soil problems but also for us all to have soil problems at the same time, affecting the same plant speaks to a larger problem. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿง
I meanโ€ฆhow are we all having the same problem??

Iโ€™m no scientist but this is bizarre.

I will be fertilizing with some fish emulsion and some calcium to see what kind progress I can get.

What say youโ€ฆare you having this issue??? What are your thoughts??

Are you making these mistakes in your fall garden? Are you making these mistakes in your fall garden?

MISTAKE 1: starting late
With fall gardens, itโ€™s important that you understand 2 major things: daylight & temps
We start losing both as we head into โ€œfallโ€. Thatโ€™s why in Texas 8b, weโ€™re starting fall crops in the last week of the month. We need a chance to have a chance. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Our temps donโ€™t fluctuate like Northern gardens, but they still start cooling off at night which important to understand.

MISTAKE 2: seed variety/plant variety selections
You want to make sure you are selecting early maturing varieties that are also cold tolerant for your true โ€œfallโ€ crops like brassicas, cabbage, carrots etc.

MISTAKE 3: fertilizing
Or lack thereof. Just like plants slow down as temps cool down & sunlight time gets smaller, so does your soil. It slows down too. So reach for products like fish emulsion that can be used quickly vs a slow release type fertilizer (that requires your soil to actually have an active biome to breakdown and make available to your plants)

MISTAKE 4: cold protection
If it matters to you, to protect what youโ€™re growing in the fall/winter, make sure you have frost cloth on hand to cover your plants during any period of frost/freezing.

MISTAKE 5: not starting a fall garden
One of the coolest things about gardening in Texas 8b is that we can nearly garden 365 days/year. If you are in 9a/9b - youโ€™ve got even more wiggle room. So donโ€™t not start. We get to repeat spring again + start fall crops and not many people get to do that.

If you want a garden that protects itself โ€” without chemicals or constant guessing โ€” comment SYSTEM and Iโ€™ll DM you the link.๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š
