I plant sunflowers because they are pretty & attra I plant sunflowers because they are pretty & attract pollinators/beneficials but also because they can be used as a trap crop for your garden. This season I’m growing several varieties. Pictured in the video is Mongolian Giants and I’m really looking forward to see these bloom. 🥒Here’s your cucumber bodyguard line-up ⤵️ 🌱Dill 🥒Here’s your cucumber bodyguard line-up ⤵️ 🌱Dill is a repellent for aphids & mites. 🌱Nasturtium is a trap crop for lots of pests including cucumber beetles, squash bugs, aphids & whiteflies. 🌱Hot peppers reduce root knot nematodes 🌱Tansy repels cucumber beetles. 🌱Oregano repels aphids. 🌱Marigolds…pretty sure this is the champ in the garden for repelling pests and attracting beneficials (African Marigolds are great; French Marigolds add the benefit of working to prevent root knot nematodes too). My goal for my cucumbers is to alternate an herb and a flower. I bought bugs!!! 🐞 Good bugs that is (aka benefi I bought bugs!!! 🐞 Good bugs that is (aka beneficial insects). This is the 2nd time I’ve bought beneficial insects. These are from @naturesgoodguys and it was a beneficial insect “package”. My garden is naturally setup to defend itself by incorporating companion plants for all of main crops which support beneficial insects taking up residency. However, I’m just not seeing enough beneficials in relation to the pests (specifically cucumber beetles) that are in residence. Even the best laid plans can fall short, but there are resources you can turn to, without picking up pesticides. My plants are doing so good, and I want to keep it that way!!
