๐Ÿ‰Hereโ€™s your melon bodyguard line-up โคต๏ธ But first ๐Ÿ‰Hereโ€™s your melon bodyguard line-up โคต๏ธ

But first know that the main pests for melons are aphids & cucumber beetles.

๐ŸŒฑAlyssum controls aphids by bringing in the good bugs like lacewings & ladybugs who love a good aphid buffet.

๐ŸŒฑCatnip, dill, nasturtiums help deter aphids

๐ŸŒฑRadish, Nasturtiums, French Marigolds & Tansies deter cucumber beetles.

๐ŸŒฑLavender, Borage, Oregano, French Marigolds help with bringing in the pollinators for watermelon.

My goal for my melons is to alternate an herb and a flower.

We want to attract the beneficials in with the flowers and repel the bad pests with the herbs (scent).

โœ… If youโ€™re done losing plants every season and ready to build a garden that actually defends itself, comment DEFEND and Iโ€™ll DM you the link. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š

I experiment so you donโ€™t have to! I was testing I experiment so you donโ€™t have to!

I was testing 2 different things with my squash/zucchini plants this season: toilet paper rolls to deter squash vine borers from laying their eggs inside the stems of my plants & vertical growing using t-posts as my supports.

Not even a week since I added my toilet paper rolls and they became a crazy breeding ground for squash bugs & cucumber beetles of all patterns.

I removed the rolls immediately. Unalived everything I could catch and then doused the plants in Neem oil. I literally just direct sowed my companions on Saturday (3 days ago) so I have nothing naturally defending them at the moment. Eek. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

So what say you?? I have time to test some other methods to prevent against the squash vine borer. What should I try? Foil? Something sticky??
